Cambodia's largest public hospital, Calmette, will build a new 25-storey building to meet the medical needs of Cambodians. The new hospital will cost $62 million and is scheduled to officially ground break on September 16, 2024. This was confirmed by Mr. Chheang Ra, Minister of Health.
The new building will accommodate a large number of beds and will be equipped with modern medical equipment to diagnose and treat people more effectively and timely. The new building project comes after Calmette Hospital officially inaugurated the "Techo Aphivath Building" in 2023.
It should be noted that in 2023, nearly 14 million Cambodians came to be examined and treated at various hospitals in the country, while about 200,000 to 250,000 people went to be examined and treated abroad. This figure means that only 1.5% of the population go abroad for examination and treatment, while at home it is 98.5%.
