Siem Reap International Airport in Cambodia has an interesting history and was built in 1932. At that time, the airport was basically under French colonial rule and for military operations. Later to the present, it has become the gateway for the world to Siem Reap, the land of Angkor.
In 2006, it was renovated and turned into a modern international flight center. However, due to the limited location of the airport, which does not meet the needs of international flights, Siem Reap is required to have a new airport 40km from Siem Reap with an investment of about $1 billion.
On October 15, 2023, the old Siem Reap Angkor Airport was closed, marking the end of an era. The next day, the new Siem Reap International Airport opened, offering more sophisticated facilities and capabilities. Travelers can enjoy a perfect experience and the charm of Siem Reap attracts more and more tourists.
Siem Reap Angkor International Airport will officially start accepting flights on October 16, 2023 under the presidency of HE Vongsey Vissoth, Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers.
The new Siem Reap Angkor International Airport has started receiving the first commercial flights and has brought more than 300 Chinese tourists to Siem Reap, the Angkor region of the Kingdom of Cambodia. This is according to the publication of the Ministry of Information.
Please be reminded that the new Phnom Penh International Airport project, which is under the investment of OCIC by tycoon Pung Kheav Se and a Chinese company, will also appear soon. The new airport is located in Takhmao City and Kandal Steung district, Kandal province on an area of 2,600 hectares.
