Cambodia Exports More Than $7.2 Billion Worth of 20 Major Commodities

In the first four months of 2023, Cambodia exported 20 major commodities, reaching a budget of more than $7.2 billion, down 4.9 percent compared to the same period in 2022, which had reached more than $7.6 billion. This is according to the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia.

Cambodia's main exports include garments and accessories worth more than $1.3 billion, machinery and electrical appliances worth nearly $980 million, natural pearls or precious stones worth more than $300 million, fruits and nuts worth more than $400 million, rubber and rubber products worth more than $200 million, and leather goods and fur and other goods worth more than $515 million.

According to data from the General Department of Customs and Excise, in April 2023, Cambodia's exports reached more than $1.84 billion, down 2.5 percent compared to the same period in 2022, which had reached more than $1.88 billion.

As for the declining exports, trade economists point out that this is a global market trend that is causing an economic crisis in every country.

However, Dr. Ky Sereyvath, an economist at the Royal Academy of Cambodia, is optimistic that Cambodia's exports to the ASEAN countries have increased since the beginning.

He said that the Cambodian market has already done market trade with the Asian countries, such as Korea, the Arab market, as well as the Japanese market, and has promoted Cambodian production to the global market.

It should be noted that a new international canal project named "Funan Techo Canal" worth as much as $1.7 billion is going to be built very soon.
